Everything Is Connected
03:44
|
|||
The corn needs the ladybirds; the apples need the bees
The tigers need the spotted deer; and we need the trees
The birds need the earthworms; the rice needs the rain
We all need the butterflies to come back again
Everything is connected: this is what we've neglected to see
Everything is connected: oceans, animals, air we breathe
Everything is connected: this is what we've neglected to see
Everything is connected
Harm to one is harm to us all
Can we understand this before we fall?
Harm to one is harm to us all
Can we understand this before we fall?
There's no … coming back from extinction
No! Coming back from extinction
No! Coming back from extinction
No!
Soil needs the insects; polar bears need the ice
Rivers need the timber wolves; and foxes need the mice
The grizzlies need the salmon; and the lemons need the sun
The whales need the ocean krill or else they are done
Everything is connected: this is what we've neglected to see
Everything is connected: oceans, animals, air we breathe
Everything is connected: this is what we've neglected to see
Everything is connected
Harm to one is harm to us all
Can we understand this before we fall?
Harm to one is harm to us all
Can we understand this before we fall?
There's no…coming back from extinction
No! Coming back from extinction
No! Coming back from extinction
No!

The Way Out Is In
04:33
|
|||
Oh, there are troubles, troubles all around
Troubles in the world we see, such troubles can be found
The worry is infectious, the anger lights a fire
The sorrow leads to drowning, so how can we inspire
Inspire
‘Cause the way, the way, the way, the way out is in
The way, the way, the way, the way out is in
Beyond the lose and win, there's a place where we begin
To come home
So, we've got an urge to get out and do something
But do we really know what harm that out can bring
Sit silent, walk peaceful, feel sun and rain
Breathe in and out so beauty can return again
Again
‘Cause the way, the way, the way, the way out is in
The way, the way, the way, the way out is in
Beyond the lose and win, there's a place where we begin
So please, go home, stay home till this has settled down
Please go home, stay home till it's all right
Please go home, stay home and rest a while
Please go home, and we'll make it together, through this darkest night
Because the way, the way, the way, the way out is in
Let me tell you, the way, the way, the way, the way out is in, oh!
The way, the way, the way, the way out is in
The way, the way, the way, the way out is in
Beyond the lose and win, there's a place where we begin
To come home

New Year, New You
04:12
|
|||
Make a sacred resolution, some kind of heartfelt revolution
Something to let go, give up, give away as dawn breaks on this glorious day
I don't want to repeat the same mistakes
Ending up with familiar heartaches
I don't want to travel the same tired road
Let's make a different story from the one we've always heard and told
New Year, it's a New You
A chance to begin anew
New Year, it's a New Me
It's a chance to begin afresh so joyfully
A commitment based on a generous heart – this is a fine place to start
Something to begin, something to set right - step by step, we will follow the light
I don't want to repeat the same mistakes
Ending up with familiar heartaches
I don't want to travel the same tired road
Let's make a different story from the one we've always bought and sold
New Year, it's a New You
A chance to begin anew
New Year, it's a New Me
It's a chance to begin afresh so joyfully
Think about it deeply, gotta give it a try
Gotta keep on track, gotta aim high
Gotta care enough and forgive myself when I fall
Turn this intention to a practice if I want to change at all...
New Year, it's a New You
A chance to begin anew
New Year, it's a New Me
it's a chance to begin afresh so joyfully
It's a chance to begin afresh so mindfully
It's a chance to begin afresh so peacefully
It's a chance to begin afresh
A chance to begin afresh...a chance to begin afresh

How am I living it?
Yeah, how am I living it?
My ancestors worked the land; they knew the hard winter would come
So they toiled until their hands were blistered – no project was ever done
Dawn was the Task Master; they couldn’t afford to sit still
No time to rest, no time to stop – every moment was filled
Theirs was the way of constant movement to ensure that they would survive
Working and sleeping and working again, just to stay alive
They had seconds and minutes and hours and days, weeks and months and years and decades
They had seconds and minutes and hours and days, weeks and months and years and decades
Could not turn away from the sun and bask in the full moon’s glow
They couldn’t turn away from the sun and bask in the full moon’s glow
My water comes fresh from the tap; food from the neighbourhood store
I turn darkness to light with the flick of a switch; heating runs under my floor
I have plenty of time, yet somehow refuse to sit still
When will I stop? Every moment is filled
It steals away life, this constant movement and so I close my eyes
By sitting and breathing and smiling and walking, I know I am truly alive
I have seconds and minutes and hours and days, weeks and months and years and decades
I have seconds and minutes and hours and days, weeks and months and years and decades
But how am I living it?
Yeah, how am I living it?
Those ads still tell me ‘Just Do It!’ and I say, ‘Let it all go’
There’s beauty in surrender, just like the full moon’s glow
Turn away from the sun at last and bask in the full moon’s glow (x4)
We have seconds and minutes and hours and days, weeks and months and years and decades
We have seconds and minutes and hours and days, weeks and months and years and decades
But how are we living it?
Yeah, how are we living it?
Turn away from the sun and bask in the full moon’s glow
Turn away from the sun at last and bask in the full moon’s glow

My House
04:53
|
|||
My house is a mess
The curtains are closed, every window is locked
Cobwebs in the corners, dust on every surface
Unopened bills, overdue books, the pages of old magazines stuck solid in a block
Mouldy apples in the fruit bowl, a fridge with some out-of-date juice
My friends’ loaned clothing crumpled on the floor, I don’t know what belongs to whom
Cupboards and closets full of things that don’t work, so much is broken
And some questionable mould is growing in the bathroom
My house is a mess
It’s all a little too much in here, a little too dark and a little unknown
It’s all a little too much in here: I’m haunted by these skeletons’ bones
Can’t I just buy a ticket and go somewhere else
It’s all a little too much in here by myself
I am cleaning my house
I open the curtains and raise the windows, air and light now freely flow
Blow out the cobwebs and sweep up the dust; set the spiders free in the garden
Recycle the papers, return the books, have a look at those bills and pay what I owe
Compost the fruit, disinfect the fridge and stock it with greens
Wash and return my friends’ possessions, with a ‘sorry’ and ‘thank you’ I mean
Open the cupboards and bag up the clothes, take needle and thread and start sewing
Walk my donation to a charity shop, then polish the bath till it’s glowing
I am cleaning my house
And I’m doing okay in here: to all of this, I say “hello”
I’m doing okay in here: I’m finally starting to let go
I don’t need a ticket to anywhere – I might just write a poem
And I’m doing okay in here, this is my home

Wood for the Winter
03:34
|
|||
Don’t forget to collect wood for the winter
Our hearth will glow if we plan ahead
Look out: spring is here!
Yellow flowers bring such cheer
The birdsong trilling in my ear
Spring is here!
Now summer has arrived!
It’s warm – so hot – both day and night
Ooh, this shining light
Summer’s arrived!
And everything is beauty, and everything seems fine
What do we need to put aside for another time?
Don’t forget to collect wood for the winter
The fallen branches and twigs under your tread
Don’t forget to collect wood for the winter
Our hearth will glow if we plan ahead
Autumn is upon us!
A cloudy sky, a chilly gust
We bake a pie with a hearty crust
When autumn is upon us!
We dance and play in piles of leaves
When we see our breath, we can’t believe
What Mother Earth has up her sleeve
Oh
Still everything is beauty, still everything seems fine
But do we need to put aside for another time?
No season lasts forever and winter will return
No season lasts forever, and we’ll need a fire to burn
We all need a fire in the dark and in the cold
We all need a fire, burning scarlet and gold
Don’t forget to collect wood for the winter
The fallen branches and twigs under your tread
Don’t forget to collect wood for the winter
Our hearth will glow if we plan ahead
We all need a fire to burn (x4)

Five Contemplations
02:01
|
|||
This food is the gift of the whole universe
Full of sun and rain and soil and hard loving work
May we eat with mindfulness and gratitude
So that we may be worthy of this food
May we see and transform our unwholesome greed
And use and eat only what we need
As we eat and live, may the Earth be respected
All suffering relieved, and our climate protected
We accept this food to nurture our unity
Serve all living beings and build our community
We accept this food
With gratitude
Serve all living beings
In blessed community

Love Letter to the Earth
03:19
|
|||
I'll write a love letter to the Earth, a love letter
I will love you as you've loved me, I will love you better than before
A love letter to the Earth, a love letter
Sealed with a solemn promise I will love you forever more
You give me life; you take care of me each day
You awaken all my senses in a thousand different ways
Your rivers quench my thirst, you offer shelter in your arms and then
You feed me and you clothe me and you keep me from harm
I'll write a love letter to the Earth, a love letter
I will love you as you've loved me, I will love you better than before
A love letter to the Earth, a love letter
Sealed with a solemn promise I will love you forever more
You're a miracle, a jewel, yeah, you have never failed
Despite the ways I've hurt you, you have always prevailed
Now you're crying and you're burning and our home is falling down
So I'm gonna use my power! I’m gonna use my power!
I’m gonna use my power to turn this system 'round
I'll write a love letter to the Earth, a love letter
I will love you as you've loved me, I will love you better than before
A love letter to the Earth, a love letter
Sealed with a solemn promise I will love you forever
A love letter to the Earth, a love letter
I will love you as you've loved me, I will love you better than before
A love letter to the Earth, a love letter
Sealed with a solemn promise I will love you forever more

Fine Mess
02:55
|
|||
Wanna forge a way from this fine mess we're in to there
Wanna forge a way from this fine mess we're in to there
So much history, it is not a mystery
We end up caught and quartered in this tangle
Despite our good intentions and various interventions
There’s a battlefield between us – how I hate this wrangle
Can I find a simple pathway between your place and mine?
Where we don't trip up on roots and tendrils so entwined
Where we both can see the sky above us, breathe in the clean air
Oh I wanna forge a way from this fine mess we're in to there
Oh I wanna forge a way from this fine mess we're in to there
Running free – like the water
Running free – like the wind
Running free – like the seasons turning
Away from this mess we’re in
Away from this mess we’re in
The time we were together, we thought would last forever
But it ended a long, long time ago
So many twists and turns, many bridges we've both burned
I'm looking for a way to let this go
Can I find a simple pathway between your place and mine?
Where we don't trip up on roots and tendrils so entwined
Where we both can see the sky above us, breathe in the clean air
Oh I wanna forge a way from this fine mess we're in to there
Oh I wanna forge a way from this fine mess we're in to there
Running free – like the water
Running free – like the wind
Running free – like the seasons turning
Away from this mess we’re in
Away from this mess we’re in
Away from this mess we’re in
Away from this mess we’re in

I Promise You
03:54
|
|||
You said I had all of you, all of you, all of you, you said
You said I had all of you, all of you, all of you, you said
And I promise you, I promise you, I promise, I promise to
I promise you, I promise you, I promise to be true
Your brother said you were an island but that I had built a bridge
Your brother said you were an island but that I had built a bridge
You built a bridge, you built a bridge, you built a bridge to me
You built a bridge, you built a bridge, a bridge across the sea
You wanted to marry me, marry me, marry me, you said
You wanted to marry me, marry me, but now that you're dead
My precious beloved, you know that it’s true
My precious beloved, my heart belongs to you
You said I had all of you, all of you, all of you, you said
You said I had all of you, all of you, all of you, you said
And I promise you, I promise you, I promise, I promise to
I promise you, I promise you, I promise to be true

Two Metres and a Mask
03:52
|
|||
Two meters and a mask: how will I love again?
Two meters and a mask: when will I trust again?
It is necessary, to protect each other - I comply
I understand the science, and I know the simple reasons why
But I miss seeing an open smile, I miss a friend’s embrace
And I don’t want to live in fear of the whole human race
Two meters and a mask: how will I love again?
Two meters and a mask: when will I trust again?
Soap and sanitizer, buy online for home delivery
I never thought such things would be important for my own safety
Am I changed forever more? I want to hold you so close
Now that I can’t touch the people whom I love the most
Two meters and a mask: when will I trust again?
Two meters and a mask: how will I love again?
Memories of riding a train
Memories of meeting a stranger
Memories of standing side by side
When there wasn’t yet any danger
Two meters and a mask: how will I love again?
Two meters and a mask: when will I trust again?
Two meters and a mask: oh, to hug again!
Two meters and a mask …

Let It Be How It Is
03:40
|
|||
It's not everything or nothing; it's not black or white
It's not perfect or ruined; it’s not dark or light
It's not able or unable; it’s not good or bad
Not illusion or reality; not sane or mad
Not illusion or reality; sane or mad
Not a dream or a nightmare; it’s not dirty or pure
It’s not selfish or generous; it’s not killer or cure
It’s not pretty or ugly; it’s not rain or shine
Not forwards or backwards; not yours or mine
Not forwards or backwards; yours or mine
Let it be how it is, let it be how it is, let it be how it is
Let it be how it is, let it be how it is, let it be how it is
I say yes!
To this beautiful mess
I say yes!
It’s not crowded or empty; it’s not soft or hard
It’s not correct or incorrect; it’s not palace or junkyard
It’s not playful or serious; it’s not short or long
Not complicated or simple; not right or wrong
Not complicated or simple; right or wrong
Let it be how it is, let it be how it is, let it be how it is
Let it be how it is, let it be how it is, let it be how it is
This in-between space
This un-nameable place
Your indescribable face
Let it be how it is, let it be how it is, let it be how it is
Let it be how it is, let it be how it is, let it be how it is
Let it be how it is, let it be how it is, let it be how it is
Let it be how it is, let it be how it is, let it be how it is
Let it be how it is, let it be how it is, let it be how it is
Let it be how it is, let it be how it is, let it be how it is
I say yes!
To this beautiful mess
I say yes!
